Serving as an Acolyte at St. Christopher's is a privilege and an important ministry, providing an opportunity to do quiet, meditative work during the worship service. The commitment to Acolyte is often the first mature response a young person makes in service to our church.
Any St. Christopher's youth (4th grade and above) may serve as an Acolyte. Since Acolytes are an essential and integral part of the worship service, they are willing to assume the responsibility of being present when scheduled to serve. They are asked to be vested by 10:20 a.m. on Sunday mornings. Acolytes serve as Crucifer, Torchbearer and Banner Carriers. They wear special vestments and a cross pendant. The Crucifer assists the Rector in the preparation of the Eucharist at the altar. Training sessions are scheduled once or twice a year.
There are additional opportunities to serve throughout the year, such as Christmas, Holy Week, Easter, etc. Any youth wishing to serve as an Acolyte is asked to call the church office at 239-6751.
